Edleen Circle KWIKSPAR and SPAR South Rand DC recently joined forces to donate 10 000 sanitary pads to Muruga’s Sisterhood for distribution around Kempton Park.
SPAR donated sanitary pads to Muruga’s Sisterhood Bike Club and various supporting bikers’ clubs were present to offer assistance, including FTR SMC, Blood In Blood out MC, Forgiven MC, Warlocks Eastrand MC and Bikers United.
Edleen Circle KWIKSPAR’s owner, Reinier Mare, said various organisations in the Kempton Park area would benefit from the donation.

“When we looked at the needs of our community, especially among young women, we recognised the significance of addressing menstrual hygiene.
“Our decision to donate 10 000 sanitary pads reflects our commitment to supporting the well-being and dignity of those in our communities,” said Mare.
Mare told the Kempton Express that the aim of the donation went beyond providing essential sanitary products.
It signified a step towards breaking down barriers and ensuring that every individual has access to proper hygiene resources.
He added the partnership between Edleen Circle KWIKSPAR and SPAR South Rand DC underscored the power of collaboration in making a meaningful impact.
“We are thankful for the unwavering support from SPAR South Rand DC. Their partnership has enabled us to extend our reach and effect positive change in the lives of many,” said Mare.

According to Mare, the donation not only addressed a crucial need but also reflects the caring spirit that drives local businesses to uplift their communities, one of the SPAR values.
Muruga’s Sisterhood spokesperson Saloshnee Pillay said that the female bikers club has embarked on an annual charity drive, to collect sanitary pads and distribute to schools, shelters and informal settlements in underserviced areas.
She said that that the event was aimed at giving young girls their dignity back.
“We are passionate about uplifting women and we also understand that there is a serious crisis in underserviced areas where basic needs cannot be met.
“We are aware that unemployment and poverty in our country is on the rise,” said Pillay.
Pillay added that the group’s aim was to create awareness amongst all South Africans, corporates and SME’s through partnership and ongoing donations to provide this basic need on a monthly basis.
She said Muruga’s Sisterhood also aims to create an awareness that the biking community is not only about riding a bike but also giving back to the community with charity rides.

In addition, she said that last year was the first annual pad run and they successfully distributed 5 000 packets of pads to Lenasia, Soweto, Eldorado Park and Westbury.
“This year we successfully received sponsors and donations that afforded us to distribute a total of 20 000 packets of pads, 7 000 boxes of tampons and 2 500 soaps,” Pillay said.
She said that such events help the group to come together and open up their hearts to contribute to a worthy cause.
It also creates awareness so each year they can grow and touch more hearts.
“It also allows us to work together in creating a happy environment and just bonding to spread the love and togetherness,” said Pillay.
